That, or Wikipedia.
I've often thought, "What makes you an expert?" when chef's are getting critiqued at Judge's Table during Top Chef, or when I read food articles. You can't obtain a degree in Food Critic Science from your local culinary school. What is it that makes these people able to give their brutally honest opinion and we take it as gospel?
I mean, Jeffrey is a Harvard educated lawyer...yet he is the most revered judge on Iron Chef.

So I checked it out through my trusty search engine and found that you just really have to have a lot of money and some writing skills. You have to be able to travel extensively and eat out a lot. It's a plus if you can speak four languages and take cooking classes non-stop. Then you can get paid to bash or give glowing reports about other people's cuisine.
Food bloggers are popping up left and right; but the critic seats are still reserved for models, actresses, designers, lawyers and occasionally chefs.
In my next life-I am going to be a foodie. Maybe I'll specialize in global cuisine.
Wikipedia told me that I can.
